CPA Praying Together – June 2021

I was reminded this week of why we do what we do, in the book of Isaiah, and the challenge it presents. May the Holy Spirit guide you in your prayers.
Isaiah 61 1-3
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives, and release from darkness for the prisoners.
To proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour and the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all who mourn and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,
the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendour.
Uganda:
We have just heard that Uganda has gone into lockdown for 42 days, meaning that schools will close from 7th June once again, and everyone will be required to stay at home. Covid-19 cases have increase, especially in Kampala, where the hospitals are full. Please continue to pray for wise governance and clear leadership as they negotiate a way forward.
Our friend and partner Julius reports that the Komamboga children/young adults in Kampala have been doing well. All the children will now need to be sent safely home from school again.
Please lift the following and their situations before God:
- Pray for all the children as they return home from school that they would keep safe and well and that they would excel in their studies despite the lockdown.
- Pray for the children who were expecting to sit exams this month.
- Continue to pray for the younger children who still haven’t been allowed to go back to school.
- Pray for Julius as he supports these children and their families, that he will keep safe and well too.
The reports from Rukungiri have been good. Teachers have had the opportunity to be vaccinated and so far, there are no reports of cases at St Paul’s School. Let’s give thanks for this and continue to remember them in our prayers.
The social workers may be restricted in their movements for a while. As and when they are allowed to travel to more remote areas, working with families in difficulty, please pray for safe travel for them as they seek to identify those families in most need.
Ethiopia and Mozambique:
Anyone watching the news recently will know that the situation in both these two countries is worsening. It is the fear that people are living with, the uncertainty of where a meal may come from, or whether a peaceable night will pass. It could be the loss of a loved one or ones, perhaps the destruction of crops or loss of employment. People, families, communities, and ethnic groups are suffering at this time
Please pray for:
- A ceasing of all violence.
- Peace to begin to pervade where hatred currently has a grip.
- Food and clean water for all.
- The broken hearted would know healing.
- There would be freedom for the captives.
- Many would wear a garment of praise where there has only been despair.
May El Shaddai, the Lord God Almighty, who loves us, protect us and our African friends. May Jesus Christ His Son, who died for us, save us.
May the Holy Spirit, who broods over the chaos and fills us with his presence, intercede for us and in us, for others at this time. Amen.
